Porto è una città ricca di fascino, capace di conquistare fino dal primo momento grazie all’atmosfera magica che si respira percorrendo le sue vie, affacciandosi sul fiume, e passando per i suoi quartieri.

Una città piccola che si può girare facilmente a piedi in due giorni. A porto le temperature anche in estate sono fresche quindi vi consiglio di portarvi sempre dietro una giacca per coprire le spalle anche durante i mesi estivi. Dove la temperatura tra il giorno e la notte cambia di molti gradi.

La città si divide in due parti divise dal Fiume douro e dal Ponte Dom Luis I

Da una parte si trova la città con la stazione, i quartieri, le chiese e l’architettura più autentica degli azulejos. Dall’altra parte del ponte potete trovare la parte dedicata alla cultura enogastronomica , mercatini all’aperto, ottimi ristoranti e la funicolare, oltre ovviamente una vista spettacolare sulla città…

Camminare per le vie di porto vuol dire perdersi nella magia di una città legata alle tradizioni, dove si respira l’atmosfera di un tempo, dove ci si ritrova improvvisamente in luoghi fermi al passato. Gli antichi bar che sfornano  dolci portoghesi, con i signori seduti al tavolo che richiamano le abitudini quotidiane del posto. Le facciate che avvolgono e impreziosiscono di fascino le vie , le chiese così ricche di bellezza e autenticità, le porte le finestre dai colori accesi della Ribeira, le incredibili viste dalle terrazze panoramiche sulla città, e poi la quella più bella ed emozionante, che si può ammirare dalla parte più alta, dal ponte,  dove scorre veloce il treno….E ancora le sue cantine, il profumo del vino e della cucina locale.

Ponte Dom Luis I

Costruito da uno degli allievi di Gustave Effeil, autore della famosa torre di Parigi. Il Ponte di ferro collega i due quartieri principali di Porto. Questo ponte su due piani dalla bellezza unica è attraversato nel piano più alto dal treno della nuova metro di Porto e dai pedoni, e nel piano più basso sempre dai pedoni, dalle macchine e dai tram.

Una passeggiata su questo ponte sia nella parte più alta che in quella più bassa è sicuramente la prima cosa da fare in un weekend a Porto. La vista sul fiume  Douro e sulla città sono davvero spettacolari!

 

Ribeira

Il quartiere della Ribeira è il quartiere più antico della città, dichiarato Patrimonio dell’Umanità Unesco. Un labirinto di stradine in salita e discesa , case basse colorate, panni stesi, botteghe artigianali, un insieme di fattori che rendono questo quartiere unico e caratteristico.

E poi godetevi lo spettacolo di Praca da Ribeira che si affaccia sulla splendida piazza con bar e ristoranti sul fiume.

Chiesa di San Francesco 

Il più importante monumento gotico Portoghese. ammirare la tecnica della talha dourada, l’intarsio in legno tutto dorato che è tipico di molte chiese barocche costruite in Portogallo nel corso del 1700. Tra le “chiese d’oro”, quella di San Francesco è una delle più belle  e caratteristiche d’Europa!

Igreja do Carmo

Questa è la famosissima chiesa con la facciata laterale ricoperta di azulejos, le decorazioni realizzate a mano che ritraggono scene di vita e del culto della vergine maria. Uno dei migliori esempi di architettura rococò di Porto.

Livreria Lello

A pochi passi dalla Igreja do Carro, si trova la livreria lello, aperta nel XVII secolo è una delle librerie più antiche e belle del portogallo che unisce gotico e liberty insieme. Che deve anche la sua fama per il famoso Harry Potter che ha fatto tappa anche qui! Il costo per entrare è di 4 euro a persona.

Torre dos Clerigos

Sempre nei dintorni troviamo la Torre dos Clerigos che è uno dei simboli della città in stile barocco e dalla quale si può ammirare una splendida vista sulla città.

La cattedrale 

La cattedrale ha un ingresso gratuito e permette di affacciarsi sul miradouro all’interno e godere anche qui di una meravigliosa vista sul fiume e sui tetti della città…

Le vie principali

Rua de santa caterina è la strada principale della città dove si affacciano i negozi più importanti e i palazzi di azulejos.

 Rua de Mercadores la parte più antica della città con stradine, scale, case colorate e popolari oltre negozi e botteghe della tradizione.

Rua de Flores, un insieme di palazzi barocchi, chiese e dimore borghesi.

Rua de Miguel Bombara è invece una via colma di gallerie d’arte, vetrerie, artigiani, caffè e boutique hotel.

Mercado do bolhao 

Vicino alla famosa Rua de Caterina, si trova imboccando la piccola Rua do Estêvão.  Un grande complesso architettonico grigio, dall’aspetto ordinario: il mercato do bolhão che è il più antico mercato di Porto e anche un mercato molto semplice e non propriamente curato che mantiene le tradizioni più antiche.

Capela das Almas 

Situata al centro di Rua santa caterina, questa chiesa è un altro elemento caratterizzato e ricoperto dei famosi azulejos, dove in questo caso vengono rappresentate gli elementi delle  vite di san francesco e santa chiara.

Crociera sul Douro

Questa è una di quelle cose da fare a Porto: una crociera sul fiume con le tipiche imbarcazioni del posto. Avrete la possibilità con soli 15 euro di percorrere il fiume passando dai suoi ben 6 ponti, per una durata di 50 minuti.  Regalandovi ovviamente una vista incredibile e mozzafiato sulla città e sulla Ribeira.

Teleferico di Gaia

Questa funicolare si trova nella parte opposta alla Ribeira, un impianto per il turismo, che fa parte della riqualificazione del vecchio quartiere del porto e della città di Vila Nova de Gaia.
Intorno a questa attrazione, il turismo è molto sviluppato. grazie sopratutto ai  numerosi ristoranti e cantine vinicole presenti su questo lato della città.

Tour tra le cantine di Porto

Porto è la città dove si produce il famoso vino che porta il suo nome . Il famoso vino liquoroso legato alle sue origini perchè viene prodotto proprio nella regione del Douro, la vallata che si estende intorno al Fiume.

Per questo la città gode delle migliori case vinicole. Tra cui troviamo:

Taylor’s una delle più belle e grani d’Europa.

Ramos Pinto, dove tutto sembra essersi fermato nel tempo.

Sandeman, il marchio più conosciuto grazie anche al suo iconico logo.

Graham’s, le cantine più antiche di Porto

Calem, una delle più famose e più visitate e la prima appena superato il ponte.

Percorrendo la via principale, superato il Ponte Dom Luis I, che attraversa tutte le più famose case vinicole e ristoranti di Porto, troverete una vietta dove potete scorgere l’opera di Bordolo II. Per tutti gli amanti dello street art questo artista portoghese realizza in tantissime città del mondo queste bellissime opere pubbliche utilizzando materiali di scarto, e raccolta rifiuti della città, riciclandoli! Porto is a city full of charm, able to conquer from the first moment thanks to the magical atmosphere that one breathes by walking its streets, overlooking the river, and passing through its neighborhoods.

A small city that you can easily walk around in two days. In Porto, even in summer the temperatures are cool so I suggest you always bring a jacket to cover your shoulders even during the summer months.Where the temperature between day and night changes many degrees.

The city is divided into two parts divided by the Douro River and the Dom Luis I Bridge

On one side is the city with the station, the neighborhoods, the churches and the most authentic architecture of the azulejos. On the other side of the bridge you can find the part dedicated to food and wine culture, outdoor markets, excellent restaurants and the funicular, as well as of course a spectacular view of the city …

Walking through the port streets means getting lost in the magic of a city linked to traditions, where you can breathe the atmosphere of the past, where you suddenly find yourself in places that are still in the past.The ancient bars that churn out Portuguese sweets, with the gentlemen sitting at the table that recall the daily habits of the place. The facades that wrap and embellish the streets with charm, the churches so rich in beauty and authenticity, the doors the brightly colored windows of the Ribeira, the incredible views from the panoramic terraces over the city, and then the most beautiful and exciting one, which is you can admire from the highest part, from the bridge, where the train runs fast …. And yet its cellars, the scent of wine and local cuisine.

Here are all the most beautiful places not to be missed in two three days in Porto, the capital of northern Portugal:

Dom Luis I Bridge

Built by one of the students of Gustave Effeil, author of the famous tower of Paris. The Iron Bridge connects the two main districts of Porto. This two-story bridge of unique beauty is traversed on the top floor by the new Porto metro train and pedestrians, and on the lower level by pedestrians, cars and trams.

A walk on this bridge both in the upper and lower part is certainly the first thing to do in a weekend in Porto. The views of the Douro River and the city are truly spectacular!

Ribeira

The Ribeira neighborhood is the oldest neighborhood in the city, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A maze of uphill and downhill streets, low-colored houses, hanging clothes, craft shops, a set of factors that make this neighborhood unique and characteristic.

And then enjoy the spectacle of Praca da Ribeira overlooking the beautiful square with bars and restaurants on the river.

Church of San Francesco

The most important Portuguese Gothic monument. admire the talha dourada technique, the all-gilded wood inlay that is typical of many Baroque churches built in Portugal during the 1700s. Among the “golden churches”, that of St. Francis is one of the most beautiful and characteristic of ‘Europe!

Igreja do Carmo

This is the very famous church with the side façade covered with azulejos, the handmade decorations depicting scenes of life and the cult of the Virgin Mary. One of the best examples of Rococo architecture in Porto.

Livreria Lello

A few steps from the Igreja do Carro, there is the Livreria Lello, opened in the seventeenth century is one of the oldest and most beautiful bookshops in Portugal that combines Gothic and Art Nouveau together.Which also owes its fame to the famous Harry Potter who also stopped here! The cost to enter is 4 euros per person.

Torre dos Clerigos

Also in the surroundings we find the Torre dos Clerigos which is one of the symbols of the city in Baroque style and from which you can admire a splendid view of the city.

The main streets

Rua de santa caterina is the main street of the city where the most important shops and azulejos palaces overlook.

Rua de Mercadores the oldest part of the city with narrow streets, stairs, colorful and popular houses over shops and traditional shops.

Rua de Flores, a collection of Baroque palaces, churches and bourgeois residences.

Rua de Miguel Bombara is instead a street full of art galleries, glassworks, artisans, cafes and boutique hotels.

Mercado do bolhao

Near the famous Rua de Caterina, it is located by taking the small Rua do Estêvão. A great gray architectural complex, with an ordinary appearance: the Bolhão market which is the oldest market in Porto and also a very simple and not properly cared for market that maintains the most ancient traditions.

Capela das Almas

Located in the center of Rua santa caterina, this church is another element characterized and covered with the famous azulejos, where in this case the elements of the lives of St. Francis and St. Francis are represented.

Cruise on the Douro

Along the main street, past the Dom Luis I Bridge, which crosses all the most famous wine houses and restaurants of Porto, you will find a small street where you can see the work of Bordolo II. For all lovers of street art this Portuguese artist realizes in many cities around the world these beautiful public works using waste materials, and waste collection of the city, recycling them!
