Porto is a city full of charm, able to conquer from the first moment thanks to the magical atmosphere that you breathe along its streets, overlooking the river, and passing through its neighborhoods.

A small town that can be easily explored on foot in two days. In Porto the temperatures are cool even in summer so I recommend that you always carry a jacket with you to cover your shoulders even during the summer months. Where the temperature between day and night changes by many degrees.

The city is divided into two parts divided by the Douro River and the Dom Luis I Bridge

On one side is the city with the station, the neighborhoods, the churches and the most authentic architecture of the azulejos. On the other side of the bridge you can find the part dedicated to food and wine culture , open-air markets, excellent restaurants and the funicular, as well as obviously a spectacular view over the city…

Walking through the port streets means getting lost in the magic of a city linked to traditions, where you can breathe the atmosphere of the past, where you suddenly find yourself in places stuck in the past. The old bars that bake Portuguese sweets, with the gentlemen seated at the table that recall the daily habits of the place. The facades that wrap and embellish the streets with charm , churches so rich in beauty and authenticity, the doors the windows in the bright colors of the Ribeira, the incredible views from the panoramic terraces over the city, and then the most beautiful and exciting one, which can be admired from the highest part, from the bridge, where the train runs fast….And again its cellars, the scent of wine and local cuisine.

Dom Luis I Bridge

Built by one of Gustave Effeil's pupils, author of the famous tower of Paris. The Iron Bridge connects the two main districts of Porto. This two-story bridge of unique beauty is crossed on the top floor by the train of Porto's new metro and pedestrians, and in the lower floor always by pedestrians, from cars and trams.

A walk on this bridge both in the upper and in the lower part is certainly the first thing to do in a weekend in Porto. The views of the Douro River and the city are truly spectacular!

 

Riverside

The Ribeira district is the oldest district in the city, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A labyrinth of uphill and downhill streets , low colored houses, clothes hanging, craft shops, a set of factors that make this neighborhood unique and characteristic.

And then enjoy the Praca da Ribeira show overlooking the beautiful square with riverside bars and restaurants.

Church of San Francesco

The most important Portuguese Gothic monument. admire the technique of Gold carving, the all gilded wood inlay that is typical of many Baroque churches built in Portugal during the 1700. Among the "golden churches", that of San Francesco is one of the most beautiful and characteristic in Europe!

Carmo Church

This is the very famous church with the side facade covered with azulejos, the hand-made decorations depicting scenes from the life and cult of the virgin mary. One of Porto's finest examples of Rococo architecture.

Livreria Lello

A few steps from the Igreja do Carro, the livreria lello is located, opened in the seventeenth century, it is one of the oldest and most beautiful bookstores in portugal that combines gothic and liberty together. Which also owes its fame to the famous Harry Potter who also made a stop here! The cost to enter is 4 euro per person.

Tower of the Clergymen

Also in the surrounding area we find the Torre dos Clerigos which is one of the symbols of the city in Baroque style and from which you can admire a splendid view of the city.

The main streets

Rua de Mercadores the oldest part of the city with narrow streets, scale, colorful and popular houses as well as traditional shops and shops.

Cable car of Gaia

This funicular is located on the opposite side of the Ribeira, a facility for tourism, which is part of the redevelopment of the old port district and the city of Vila Nova de Gaia.
Around this attraction, tourism is highly developed. thanks above all to the numerous restaurants and wineries on this side of the city.
